MUMBAI, India, April 29: Late Wednesday evening, a devastating discovery shook the Antop Hill area of Mumbai as two young siblings, aged seven and five, were found dead inside an abandoned car. Police reported that there were no visible injury marks on the children, suggesting they had accidentally locked themselves inside while playing and tragically succumbed to suffocation.

The victims were identified as Sajid Sheikh (7) and Muskan (5), who resided with their parents, Mohabat and Syra, in a makeshift house in sector 5 of Antop Hill. According to a family friend, Ravindra Shetty, the children had been playing outside their home when they went missing around 1:30 pm. Despite frantic efforts by their mother to locate them, the children remained unaccounted for until their father woke up at 6 pm and the family sought assistance from Shetty.

Together, they approached the local police station to file a missing persons report, initiating a search effort aided by CCTV footage analysis. The harrowing discovery came when a woman police officer investigating the area found the siblings inside the abandoned vehicle parked near their residence around 10 pm.

Tragically, Muskan was found seated in the driver’s seat while Sajid lay in the rear seat. Despite immediate medical attention, both children were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kadam stated that preliminary investigations indicated the cause of death as suffocation, pending final autopsy reports. Authorities are working to determine how the children gained access to the abandoned car and became trapped inside.

The Antop Hill police have registered a case of accidental death and intend to record the statement of the car’s owner as part of their ongoing investigation into this heartbreaking incident.
