KUWAIT CITY, May 13: The General Traffic Department (GTD) at the Interior Ministry, under the leadership of Assistant Undersecretary for Operations and Traffic Affairs Major General Yousef Al-Khadda, continued its campaign to ensure the maximum level of discipline on the roads and to arrest traffic law violators, reports Al-Anba daily. The daily obtained a copy of the statistics issued by GTD for the past week (May 5-10), showing that 25,850 citations for various violations were issued, 34 juveniles were arrested and referred to the Juvenile Prosecution for driving without a license, and 25 individuals were detained for committing serious traffic violations.

According to the statistics, 64 vehicles and 34 bicycles were impounded for different violations like tinted windows, noncompliance with security and safety regulations, and failure to present a valid driving license. Also, 46 vehicles wanted by law for being used in breach of trust and other cases were impounded, nine people were arrested for failure to serve the prison sentences imposed on them and three others for absconding. Three people were referred to the Drug Control General Department for the possession of drugs and driving under the infl uence. Regarding traffic accidents, the statistics revealed that 238 major accidents occurred last week; resulting in serious injuries and deaths, while 1,357 minor accidents led to material losses only.
