Finance minster okays decision to reduce allowance paid to expat teachers

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, acting Minister of Oil and chairman of the Board Directors of Civil Service Commission Anas Al- Saleh has approved the board’s decision on amending housing allowance paid to non-Kuwaiti teachers in the Ministry of Education and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET), reports Al-Rai daily.

The decision stipulates that housing allowance for male and female teachers in the Education Ministry and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training will be reduced from KD 150 to KD 60 regardless the marital status of teachers — single or married.

According to the second article of law number 38/2016 “a husband receiving housing allowance from his employee (government or public or joint or private sector) does not deserve housing allowance”, and the third article cancels any action that contradicts with the decision. It will come into effect from the date of it is published in the official gazette.

The Finance Ministry is taking part in the 36th GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, Oct 16-20, seeking a new vision for promoting the government working system, a senior official said on Friday. The ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary of General Accounting Affairs Abdulghaffar Al-Awadi made the statement in a press release, announcing the ministry’s participation in the key technological event.

During the 36th GITEX, ministry officials will come together with a host of leading technology companies, already engaged in the ministry’s projects, he said. In addition, the ministry will offer some of its latest technological applications, such as that of electronic signature and state’s general financial system, together with the smart devices and tablets for the services offered to the public.
