Withdrawal of health guides a matter of concern

Lack of training programs led to resignations

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: The director of the Health Enhancement Department at the Ministry of Health Dr Abeer Al-Bahwa has expressed her concern about the withdrawal of health guides, as the total number currently stands at about 85 health guides. In a press statement, she revealed that the lack of training programs and lack of promotion in their job titles contributed greatly to the resignation of a large number of them. Dr. Al-Bahwa stressed the need to raise allowances and incentives to attract and encourage high school graduate students to study the profession of health guide at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, because of its great importance in improving the quality of healthy living in the country. She affirmed the importance of the role of health guides to improve the health of individuals and society, reduce the incidence of diseases, disabilities, and deaths, and improve the quality of life for individuals and society.

Dr. Al-Bahwa highlighted the necessity of activating the role of health education raising the level of the profession and promoting it, as it is one of the professions that needs strengthening and support. She explained that the job of health guides is not limited to providing health education but also includes helping individuals change their lifestyles to make them healthier and adopt healthy attitudes. A health guide is a specialist with a degree in health education for planning education programs, monitoring, and evaluation, preparing awareness materials, implementing health education programs, and providing consultations, through his/her multiple skills that range from knowledge, experience, awareness, ability to communicate, and patience.
