Wadi returns as Kuwait coach names squad

Kuwait players training for the upcoming World Cup and Asian Cup qualifers.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: The Kuwait national team, led by Portuguese Rui Pinto, announced the squad for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers against India and Afghanistan. The list witnessed the return of Wadi, who has been absent for more than a year due to injury, while Abdullah Al-Fahd, who was present on the Blue list in the recent period, was excluded due to injury. The group also includes Qatar, which will meet Al-Azraq on March 21 and 26.

Kuwait faces India on November 16 at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, and Afghanistan on the 21st of November at Al-Ittifaq Club Stadium in Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait commenced their training at the Friendship and Peace Stadium.

Football Australia says its Socceroos will play Palestine in a second-round 2026 World Cup qualifier at the neutral venue of Kuwait on Nov. 21. “As a result of current circumstances in the region, the Asian Football Confederation formally requested that this designated home fixture for Palestine be held at a neutral venue,” Football Australia said in a statement. Australian soccer administrators said the match would be played at Jaber Al-Ahmed International Stadium in Kuwait, five days after the Socceroos open the second round of Asian qualifying against Bangladesh in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the technical staff of the Olympic team, led by Portuguese coach Emilio Peixe, chose 23 players for a training camp in the UAE.
