Kuwait handball team begins preparations for World Cup with friendly games against Turkey

ISTANBUL, May 8: The Kuwait national handball team gears up for its first trial match against Turkey as part of its preparations for the upcoming World Cup in January 2025. The match is set to take place at the sports complex hall in Izmir, with the teams scheduled to meet again in a second friendly match the day after tomorrow.

The Turkish Handball Federation invited the Kuwaiti team to engage in two friendly matches during the international break in the sport. The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Federation Treasurer Khaled Ghuloum and including Assistant Secretary Abdullah Al-Dhiyab, along with the technical staff and 18 players, arrived in Turkey yesterday morning.

Under the guidance of Algerian coach Saeed Hegazy and his assistant Mohamed Masoudan, along with Hungarian goalkeeping coach Levy and technical analyst Ayman Al-Sheikh, the team underwent two training sessions yesterday focusing on physical and technical aspects.

In addition to the friendly matches, the Kuwaiti Handball Federation is organizing a friendly mini-tournament during the international break further to prepare the team for the World Cup finals, aiming to elevate their technical and physical levels.

Khaled Talab, representing the Handball Federation, affirmed the collective efforts to bring the national team to the desired technical standard, expressing confidence in the players’ ability to shoulder the responsibility. He highlighted that the team’s qualification for the World Cup has opened new opportunities, including invitations from other participating federations, signaling a promising future for the “Blue” team.
