Rain peaks Wednesday with hail, strong winds

KUWAIT CITY, April 30: The Meteorological Department said that the rainy condition that has affected the country since Sunday evening, will continue Tuesday, with scattered rain of light to moderate intensity, peaking at noon Wednesday, until the early hours of the night, especially in the central and southern regions, reports Al- Jarida daily. Director of the Department, Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the rains are of varying intensity, ranging from medium to heavy, and may be accompanied by hailstones, with active winds whose speed may exceed 60 kilometers per hour, raising dust in open areas.
Al-Qarawi explained that this leads to a decrease in horizontal visibility and a rise in sea waves as a result of the extension of a superficial depression accompanied by a humid air mass, coinciding with a deepening depression in the upper atmosphere. He stated that the weather will gradually improve Thursday morning, as clouds and rain chances decrease, with chances of fog forming in the evening, and the prospect of rain returning Friday in some areas, especially the northern and coastal areas.
Meanwhile, in anticipation of forecasted rainfall due to an impending depression, the Ministry of Public Works and its various sectors swung into action yesterday morning. With specialists and meteorologists issuing warnings of prolonged rain, the ministry initiated a comprehensive preparation strategy. Teams were dispatched to strategically deploy rainwater pumps across multiple locations to mitigate potential flooding. According to ministry sources, preparations include the mobilization of emergency response teams to critical sites and the strategic placement of pumps in areas prone to water accumulation. Emphasizing proactive measures, the ministry ensures the readiness of its fleet of vehicles equipped for water retrieval and the maintenance of pump facilities within tunnels and along highways to ensure efficient operation during emergencies.
