Kuwaiti figure skating team gears up for the championship.

KUWAIT CITY, April 8: The Kuwaiti girls’ figure skating team is gearing up for the regional championship, set to kick off in Bergamo, Italy, next Sunday. Organized by the International Skating Union (ISU), the competition will feature seven teams from across three continents and span two days.

Heading the Winter Games Club, Fuhaid Al-Ajmi announced that Sarah Al-Lahou, Laila Al-Farsi, Lara Al-Barrak, and Sama Jaragh will proudly represent Al-Azraq. They’ll face off against teams from Greece, South Africa, Cyprus, Morocco, the Emirates, and Egypt on the international stage.

Al-Ajmi noted the team’s brief camp at the tournament venue, overseen by ISU, before their competition debut. He expressed optimism for their performance, highlighting Kuwait’s significant progress in the sport.

The players underwent rigorous training at the club’s skating rink, guided by Russian coach Julia Martyusheva, under the close supervision of the national team’s administrative staff, led by game director Salem Al-Ajmi.

This participation presents an opportunity for Kuwaiti female athletes to earn crucial points for qualification in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Milan 2026 and the Ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, in February 2025.

Al-Ajmi extended gratitude to the Kuwait Olympic Committee and the General Sports Authority for their support, enabling the club’s efforts in advancing the five Winter Olympic Games it hosts, including figure skating, ice hockey, curling, skiing, and speed skating.
