KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27:  During the national holidays, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy in Kuwait achieved significant water conservation, with a saving of approximately 16.8 million gallons compared to the previous year. Dr. Salem Al-Hajraf, the Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, along with the Minister of State for Housing Affairs, commended citizens for their response to the ministry’s calls to preserve water and utilize it efficiently. He also acknowledged the impact of the Ministry of Interior and the Environment Public Authority’s instructions to refrain from activities like throwing water balloons, which contribute to water wastage.

According to statistics from the year 2024 national holidays, water consumption totaled 800.9 million gallons, compared to 817.7 million gallons during the same period last year, representing a saving of 2.6 percent. Despite a 6 percent annual increase in water demand due to population growth and urban expansion, the conservation of 16.8 million gallons highlights the growing cultural awareness and national responsibility among Kuwaiti citizens and residents to preserve water resources.

Leading up to the Independence and Liberation Days celebrations, the Ministry of Electricity and Water, along with the Ministry of Interior and the Environment Public Authority, launched a media and awareness campaign to promote water conservation. This campaign contributed to fostering an ideal cultural image for this year’s celebrations, emphasizing the importance of preserving the precious resource of water.
