Kuwait Embassy in Washington lowers flag to half-mast, receives condolences

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 20: In a solemn gesture, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Washington lowered its flag to half-mast and organized a three-day gathering to welcome mourners expressing condolences for the recent passing of the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Among the prominent attendees were the Kuwaiti Ambassador in Washington, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, as well as Arab and foreign ambassadors and senior US officials. They conveyed sincere condolences and shared in the collective grief over the demise of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Speaking with KUNA, the Kuwaiti ambassador extended heartfelt condolences to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as well as to the government and people of Kuwait. She paid tribute to the late Amir, emphasizing his enduring qualities of generosity, moderation, balance, and tolerance that will be remembered by all. She concluded by praying to Almighty Allah for mercy upon his soul and for his peaceful rest in the highest place of Paradise.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, also shared condolences with KUNA on behalf of himself and the US Department of State, expressing solidarity with the State of Kuwait during this somber moment. US Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, recounted his personal experiences and strong friendly relations during his time in Kuwait, stating that the US stands in unity with the government and people of Kuwait in their grief.

Former US Ambassador in Kuwait, Edward Ghoneim, conveyed his deep sadness upon learning of the passing of Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He highlighted his longstanding relationship with the late Amir and offered sincere condolences to the government and people of Kuwait.

Tunisian Ambassador to the US, Hanene Tajouri, expressed her lament, recognizing the loss not only to Kuwait but to the entire Arab world. She emphasized that the late Amir’s remarkable legacy would be etched in the memories of generations to come. Similarly, the French Embassy’s Counselor, Dora Cattuti, extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of her country to the Al-Sabah Family and the people of Kuwait over the passing of the Amir.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Brazil received mourners over the past three days, with Brazilian officials, deputies, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, and civil society organizations signing the embassy’s condolence book. Additionally, the Brazilian parliament observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect for the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
