Kuwait authorities tackle exploitative price surges in cafes and restaurants during the holiday season.

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 20: In response to reports of several cafes and restaurants increasing prices during the mid-year holiday season when families frequent such establishments, the Commercial Prosecution has stepped in to address the issue. The establishments allegedly raised prices on drinks, food, and meals, exploiting the surge in consumer visits.

Sources indicate that the Commercial Control Department has taken action against 16 cooperative societies, accusing them of elevating the prices of a food commodity by as much as 30%. The Ministry, in light of these violations, has issued a demand for the societies to revert the prices to their standard rates.

This move by the authorities aims to ensure fair pricing practices and protect consumers from exploitation during the holiday period. The Commercial Prosecution is actively monitoring such cases to maintain transparency and uphold consumer rights.
