Kuwait backs Palestine’s full UN entry

MANAMA, May 16 : Arab leaders on Thursday congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on assuming power, wishing him success and the best of luck, and the State of Kuwait and its people further progress and prosperity.

Representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, delivers the State of Kuwait’s speech at the 33rd Arab League summit in Manama.

This came in a final communique or Bahrain Declaration adopted by the Arab leaders following the 33rd Arab Summit in Manama. In their statement, they also voiced heartfelt condolences over the passing of the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah. Meanwhile, His Highness the Prime Minister called on the UN Security Council to grant the State of Palestine full membership status, welcoming UN General Assembly’s resolution, adopted on May 9, 2024, which supported Palestine membership. Kuwait, he said, would always remain committed to supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause.

In a resolute stance, Kuwait reaffirmed its commitment to UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as a pivotal step towards regional peace and security. His Highness the Prime Minister condemned the Israeli occupation’s egregious violations of international laws and human rights, stressing that lasting peace and justice remain elusive until the Palestinian people attain their rightful aspirations. Urging Arab unity to address pressing challenges, His Highness underscored the importance of safeguarding sovereignty and promoting dialogue for peaceful resolutions.

Meanwhile, at the pan-Arab summit in Bahrain, leaders reiterated calls for the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, emphasizing humanitarian aid delivery and the cessation of military operations. The summit’s final communique urged the international community to uphold UN conventions, halt illegal Israeli practices, and support a two-state solution based on 1967 borders. It advocated for UN forces in Palestinian territories and highlighted concerns over humanitarian crises in Sudan, Libya, Lebanon, and Yemen, stressing dialogue as essential for regional stability.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain emphasized the pursuit of a just and final peace, urging collective action to protect Arab identity and confront threats. Highlighting the Palestinian cause as central to Arab unity, he called for solidarity and dialogue to halt conflicts and achieve progress. The summit affirmed the imperative of an independent Palestinian state for regional prosperity and development, signaling a united Arab front in pursuit of peace and justice.

“From this standpoint, the Kingdom of Bahrain is providing a number of initiatives to contribute to serving essential issues that are essential to the stability and development of the region. The first of which, is the call for an international conference for peace in the Middle East, in addition to supporting the full recognition of the State of Palestine and acceptance of its membership in the United Nations. Also, to come up with a special proposal to provide educational and health services to those affected by conflicts in the region, and an initiative concerned with developing Arab cooperation in the field of financial technology and digital transformation. We look forward to achieving all of this through joint Arab action channels and international partnerships,” he added.

He expressed his proudness to receive chairmanship of the Summit after the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and expressed appreciation for his effort in the 32nd summit with the support of the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah headed the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the summit.(KUNA)
