Court clears former MP and brother in vote-buying case

KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The Court of Appeals refrained from pronouncing punishment against the former MP Mubarak Al-Aro and his brother who were accused of buying votes in the 2022 National Assembly elections. The court also canceled the one-year imprisonment sentence issued against an accused who assaulted security personnel. It canceled the KD 2,000 fine imposed on an individual who sold his vote, and refrained from punishing the rest of the accused. Earlier, the Criminal Court had ruled that former MP Mubarak Al-Arro be imprisoned for two years with hard labor, in the case of buying votes for the 2022 National Assembly elections in the Third Constituency. The court also ruled to imprison the second and third defendants who worked in Al-Aro’s electoral campaign, for one year with hard work, and imposed a fine of KD 2,000
