Number of wanted Kuwaitis more than foreigners – 22,616 travel bans and 23,115 arrest orders issued against defaulters in Q1 2016

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: About 22,616 travel bans and 23,115 arrest orders were issued against defaulters during the first quarter of the year 2016, as per statistics issued by the General Department of Sentences Enforcement.

According to the statistics, the number of wanted Kuwaitis is more than the number of wanted non- Kuwaitis especially in governorates with higher Kuwaiti population such as Ahmadi, Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Jahra governorates.

In these governorates, about 8,538 arrest orders have been issued.

On the other hand, in governorates with higher non-Kuwaiti population such as Hawally, about 7,126 arrest orders have been issued, while 5,756 arrest orders have been issued in Farwaniya and 1,695 in Capital. Regarding the travel bans, the number of non-Kuwaitis who have been banned from travelling is higher than Kuwaitis.

Governorates with high expatriate population such as Hawally, about 6,843 travel bans have been issued, while in Farwaniya, 5,953 travel bans have been issued.

In governorates with more Kuwaiti population such as Ahmadi and Jahra, the number of travel bans issued is 3,313 and 3,573 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Capital and Mubarak Al-Kabeer governorates have issued 2,933 travel bans each. The statistics reflect the growing phenomenon of personal loans and delay in payment of debts due to which travel bans against Kuwaitis and expatriates and arrest orders against them are increasing.
