KUWAIT CITY, May 16: The Misdemeanor Court presided over by Judge Faisal Al-Askari acquitted a female employee of a local bank of alleged falsification of documents and illegal withdrawal of KD 70,000 from the bank account of a Kuwaiti citizen.

According to the case file, an employee in the legal unit of the bank testified that KD 70,000 was withdrawn in cash from the plaintiff’s account in 17 different tranches through the ATM machine. He presented images captured by the surveillance camera of the withdrawals.

However, the defense counsel Lawyer Ayed Al-Rashidi stressed that his client is innocent of the allegation, insisting that it is unreasonable to accuse his client of falsification without concrete evidences.

Oil official absolved: The Court of Appeals, chaired by Judge Salem Al-Hed, nullified the verdict of the Misdemeanor Court, which sentenced the director of Kuwait Oil Company Office in London to seven years in prison with hard labor and KD 72,000 fine, as well as ordered his removal from the position after refunding KD 36,000. The higher court refrained from imposing penalty on the defendant.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with embezzlement of KD 36,000 by falsifying official bank documents in a Kuwaiti bank branch in London, in addition to using the company’s account to pay for the car he rented for one of his relatives. He was also accused of falsifying vouchers for the payment of school fees for his children and laundered KD 25,000 which he embezzled from the company.

However, his lawyer appeared before the Court of Appeals where he denied all allegations against his client and presented documents to support his argument. He affirmed that his client did not commit the act. The court later released his client on KD 1,000 bail.

Petition referred: The Public Prosecutor Dherar Al-Asousi has referred the petition submitted by Attorney Adnan Al-Shatti against Minister of Finance and Board Chairman of Public Investment Authority (PIA) Anas Al-Saleh and Executive Director of PIA Bader Al-Sa’ad, to the Ministerial Court Panel. In the petition, the lawyer accused Al-Saleh and Al-Sa’ad of paving way for people to own public funds.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Court adjourned to June 7 the drug-related case filed against an Indian expatriate who has been sentenced to death and a ruling family member as well as a Kuwaiti citizen who have both been referred to five-year imprisonment.

Furthermore, the Administrative Court has referred to the Constitutional Court, the case filed by Lawyer Abdulrahman Al-Ansari against the Fatwa and Legislation Department concerning its decision on technical inspection, due to possible violation of the decree 92/2014.

Also, the court will issue a verdict concerning the petition filed to suspend the tender for building the new airport terminal.

The court will also issue a verdict concerning the constitutionality of the National Unity Law.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution launched investigations concerning the complaint filed by the Amiri Diwan against Sheikh Malek Al-Hamoud and decided to release him after he was detained for investigations.

In addition, the Court of Appeals ordered a Kuwaiti citizen and an insurance company to pay compensation worth KD 723,000 to the guardian of a child who sustained a permanent physical disability due to a car accident caused by the citizen.
