KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: The Kuwaiti girls’ rhythmic gymnastics team embarked on their journey to the Azerbaijani capital to take part in the Second Baku International Championship for Girls. The championship is scheduled from the 9th to the 13th of this month and will see the participation of six players in the junior category: Sarah Al-Bannai, Nabila Al-Kharafi, Amina Al-Kandari, Raya Al-Qassar, Talia Behbehani, and Layan Behbehani. The team are accompanied by Ukrainian coaches Irina Kovalchuk and Victoria Vsyuk, with only the players’ parents joining the delegation.

The Kuwait Gymnastics Federation clarified that the expenses for this significant tournament will be covered by the gymnasts’ parents. Despite the importance of the Baku International Championship in the team’s preparation for upcoming competitions, the General Sports Authority, having reviewed the program, declined participation in this particular event. The federation, in collaboration with the team’s coach Irina, designed a preparation plan that involved participation in various tournaments of diverse strength and level. This strategic approach aims to consistently elevate the skill level of the female players and foster their continuous development.

The federation expressed gratitude to the parents of the gymnasts players for shouldering the trip costs, acknowledging their commitment to implementing the federation’s plan successfully. This support is seen as instrumental in enhancing the gymnasts’ abilities and creating a team capable of representing Kuwait with honor on the international stage.

In a parallel development, the junior artistic gymnastics team set off for the Greek capital, Athens, to partake in the International Horizon Cup. The competitions for this event are scheduled to take place from November 9 to 13.
