KOC workers union to discuss amendments to some articles

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 24: The Workers Union of the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has set tomorrow for holding its special general assembly to discuss amendments to some articles of the union’s bylaws, amid widespread rejection of some amendments. The union explained that the meeting will be held based on the decision of the union’s board of directors, which met on December 21.

Several workers of KOC objected to the proposed amendments, which included increasing the number of members of the Board of Directors from 15 to 19, increasing the annual subscription fee from KD 1 to KD 3, as well as amending the item related to resignation. If a member is absent three times in a row or ten random meetings in a year without an acceptable excuse, he will be considered as resigned. The proposed amendments also include adding new committees to organize the union’s affairs in addition to the Cultural and Social Committees, Fellowship Fund Committee, Media Committee, Complaints Committee, Negotiations Committee, Investment Committee and Follow-up of Retirement Affairs Committee.

Increasing
The union indicated that all proposals are open to discussion, except the one related to increasing the number of members of the Board of Directors, as this is unacceptable to a large segment of the KOC workers. Meanwhile, on Monday, the Municipal Council will discuss, during its 11th regular session of the second term headed by Abdullah Al-Mahri, several items on its agenda, the most prominent of which are the responses of the executive body to the members’ questions such as the one submitted by member Sharifa Al-Shalfan regarding the names and locations of the municipality’s parks, and the standards of safety in public places and play areas, as well as the question submitted by member Dr. Hassan Kamal regarding the allocation and licensing of storage sites.

The Municipal Council will also be discussing the response to the question submitted by member Abdullah Al-Enezi regarding future and vital projects, including the Sulaibikhat Bay development project, the Jahra Front, and the Al-Khuwaisat tourist area, as well as discussing the final account of the Kuwait Municipality for the fiscal year of 2021/2022. It will also deliberate on the draft ministerial decision regarding regulation on the cultivation of state-owned squares adjacent to private residential homes, the request to allocate a site for the construction of a secondary transformer plant in Jabriya, and a request from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to allocate a mosque site within the premises of the General Authority for the Quran, Sunnah and its Sciences in the government area in South Surra. It will also discuss the complaint filed by a Kuwaiti citizen against another regarding violations in a residential property in Shamiya, as well as the United Real Estate Company’s objection to the council’s decision to reorganize part of Blocks 4 and 7 in Qibla.
