Preacher Fuad Al-Refaei gets 7 years in jail

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: The Criminal Court has sentenced religious preacher Fuad Al-Refaei to 7 years imprisonment with hard labor and a fine of KD100,000 for violating national unity law and instigating sectarian sedition-actions that could lead to hatred in the Kuwaiti society- according to lawsuit filed by the Cyber Crimes Department against him. The Public Prosecution Department charged Al-Refaei for posting tweets to incite hatred by demeaning a particular sect in society by mocking their belief, rituals and teachings.

Dec 19 hearing set: The Committee for Appeals at the Constitutional Court chaired by Counselor Yusuf Al-Mutawa has set Dec 19, 2018 to look into the appeal filed by attorneys Yusuf Al-Adwani and Fayez Al-Zefairi on the constitutionality of procedures for fighting money laundering and financing of terrorism based on the second chapter of law number 106/2013 concerning the Kuwaiti Financial Investigation Unit.
