Court acquits preacher for insulting UAE

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: The Misdemeanor Court has acquitted an Islamic preacher Sheikh Hamid Al-Ali who was accused of offending the Amiri status and insulting the United Arab Emirates.

The Public Prosecution had charged Sheikh Hamid with misusing his Twitter handle to spread statements deemed offensive to the leadership of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in a manner that could break ties between Kuwait and the sisterly country. He was also charged with spreading false information on social media and misusing the use of smartphones.
