Kuwaiti arrested for insulting Amir

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 1, (KUNA): Security apparatuses have managed to arrest a Kuwaiti citizen charged with insulting His Highness the Amir, burning his citizenship document and posting this act through a video on social networking sites. As soon as security apparatuses learnt about the video, they arrested the defendant named Abdel-Karim Al-Shemmari after taking all legal procedures to refer him to the Public Prosecution, said a statement by the ministry’s security media department on Friday.

The defendant, who is a jobless citizen, admitted that he had committed the crime of burning his citizenship document and the “heinous” crime of insulting His Highness the Amir, the statement added. Investigations are currently underway to uncover the causes and motivations that prompted the defendant to commit this crime, it noted.
