Stay in spotlight … or else

Some seek to stay in the limelight at any cost, even if the method is devoid of taste, and at the expense of the truth!

A scholar known for collecting charity from naive people mocked the tragic death of the Titan submarine passengers. He said neither the huge wealth of the passengers nor the rescue attempts could save them from their tragic fate. The tweet is mean and rude. His tweet was clearly despicable!

Another scholar through a tweet criticized the lack of reaction from the liberals to the recent incident – burning a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

Another scholar, famous for his strong opposition to those participating in the ‘one-man one-vote election’, the so-called opposition, did not prevent him from contesting the elections, and supporting their election, so he became like someone who claims not to drink alcohol, but nominates so-and-so to drink it (!).

This brother tweeted, objecting the “liberals” must remain silent on the incident of tearing and burning the Qur’an in Sweden (deleting the tweet from now on), since he described himself as a liberal, and his protest undoubtedly represents them, and that is enough! I do not know what prevented him from calling for a demonstration against that disgraceful act.

That scholar inquired in his tweet, what if a Muslim man set fire to a copy of the Holy book of other religions. His enquiry is rejected and it aims at gaining the support of the crowds. The issue is deeper than individual actions committed by someone here or an extremist there.

Before judging others’ attacks on our symbols and sanctities, did we ask ourselves if we were really that religious? Or do we treat others with real humanity? Or are we even human with ourselves? Don’t many families refuse to marry their daughters to those who follow other sects, whether Sunni or Shiite? If we are so hostile to each other, and we who belong to the same religion, then what is the depth of the enmity in our souls against the Christian, the Jew, the Buddhist and the Hindu, let alone the followers of the beliefs of sacred icons?

We cannot ask the other to be “understanding and humane” with our sanctities, if we are unable to be humane with our sanctities, or theirs.

For hundreds of years, “Hagia Sophia” was a Byzantine church, then the Ottomans occupied Constantinople and changed the religion of the city’s people and its name to Istanbul, and converted the church into a mosque in 1453.

After the fall of the Ottoman Empire, the mosque turned into a museum. In order to win the sympathy and votes of the Turkish voters, Erdogan recently allowed prayers in the Hagia Sophia, and we did not find demonstrations blocking the streets of European cities in protest against his behavior, but rather some polite criticism, one of which was, coincidentally, from the President of Sweden. We also welcomed, with obvious pleasure, the return of the right to pray in a former church.

Muslims never stopped converting dozens or hundreds of non-Islamic places of worship into mosques after their occupation of any city, and among the most famous examples, other than Hagia Sophia, is the Great Mosque of Cordoba in Spain, and the Babri Mosque in India, which was demolished by the Hindus, because it was built on the ruins of a Hindu temple, and the Jerusalem Church in Homs, Syria, and the Magian fire temples, and the Ibn Tulun Mosque in Egypt, which was built in the ninth century on the site of a Coptic church, and the Great Mosque in Algeria, which was a church.

Add to the list the “Cristo de la Luz” mosque in Toledo, Spain, which was built in the tenth century, and was converted into a church, and is now a mosque again, and is known by the same name!

I am not calling for tolerance of those who insult the feelings of others, but I am interested in understanding the situation better. There is no doubt that they committed a sin, rather a crime, but we inevitably did, for centuries, not offending them, but rather verbally assaulting them and all their sanctities, all because some people believed that this is our right, as we are the owners of the saved group, and we are entitled to what no one else is entitled to!
