MANILA, Philippines, Nov 19, (Agencies): Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has clarified that she harbors no aspirations to run for president in 2028. When asked about her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte’s statement on the matter, she emphatically stated, “It is not my ambition to run for vice president and especially, president. You all know that.”

During an interview on Sunday, Nov 19, Vice President Duterte reiterated her stance, emphasizing that while plans can be made, the ultimate course of events is guided by a higher plan. “I have said it before that I do not want to run for president. Everything that we do, we can only plan, but it will be truly God’s plan that will prevail.”

Her comments come in response to her father’s advice, aired on his television show on Nov 16, urging her not to seek the presidency in the 2028 elections. Former president Rodrigo Duterte, expressing contentment with their family’s current political positions, stated, “If I were Inday, do not aim for it. You are my daughter, just give them the nation, and let us see what will happen to this country.”

Highlighting the family’s existing roles, where the former president holds the ex-presidency, Sara occupies the vice presidency, and his two sons—Paolo and Sebastian—hold positions as congressman and mayor, he deemed it sufficient.

In addition to addressing her political aspirations, Vice President Sara Duterte commented on her relationship with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, her running mate in the 2022 elections. Amid controversies surrounding confidential funds and alleged impeachment, she stated, “We’re okay. Well, I believe that I still have the trust of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.”
