LOS ANGELES, Jan 16, (Agencies): LeAnn Rimes provides an update on her health journey, sharing details of a recent minor surgical procedure. In a comprehensive Instagram post over the weekend, the 41-year-old singer disclosed that she underwent surgery on Friday to eliminate precancerous cells following an abnormal pap smear.

She began her message by acknowledging the historical challenges she has faced in January but expressed that her 2024 began smoothly. Despite the joyful start to the year, Rimes revealed that she underwent a minor surgery the day before.

Rimes decided to share her personal health experience as a reminder to her followers to prioritize annual screenings, emphasizing the importance of early detection for any changes within the body.

The singer recounted the events leading to her surgery, starting with her annual pap smear several months ago, which returned abnormal results. Having dealt with abnormal paps since the age of 17, Rimes explained that regular pap smears and colposcopies allowed her doctors to monitor any cellular changes.

Following a colposcopy and lab testing, Rimes received a diagnosis of high-grade cervical dysplasia, indicating precancerous changes in cervical cells. She collaborated with her doctor to opt for a LEEP procedure, aimed at removing the abnormal, precancerous cells under anesthesia.

Choosing to be anesthetized, Rimes mentioned her preference for comfort due to the trauma she has experienced in her life. She highlighted the importance of early detection in the absence of typical symptoms for early-stage cervical cancer, emphasizing its potential to be lifesaving.
