Kuwait Orders Removal of Fishermen’s Makeshift Houses

KUWAIT CITY, May 2 :  Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Sabah has instructed the Coast Guard to remove the makeshift houses of Egyptian and Asian fishermen who set up these structures on Miskan island and resided there, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a security source.

The source disclosed that as per the minister’s directive; the concerned authorities removed the houses, while the specialized teams are currently cleaning the waste and rubble and removing damaged boats from the island in coordination with the Coast Guard and other concerned authorities.



The source clarified that those staying on the island have valid residence permits and their sponsors were summoned and informed that they should not establish houses on the island because it is prohibited to reside there. He added the minister’s directive includes zero tolerance policy in the demolition of illegal structures on the island.
