Egyptians, Kuwaiti officer ‘acquitted’ of forging, selling driving licenses

KUWAIT CITY, April 25: The Court of Cassation, presided over by Judge Saleh Al-Muraishid, overturned the verdict issued by a lower court which sentenced an Egyptian expatriate and a Kuwaiti deputy officer to ten-year imprisonment each, followed by his dismissal from his position, and two Egyptian expatriates to five-year imprisonment. They were accused of being part of a network that forged Farwaniya traffic driving licenses at a rate of KD 300 each. The court instead refrained from pronouncing punishment for all of them. The court also canceled the four-year imprisonment sentence issued against eight Egyptians who paid bribes after failing the tests, and ruled to refrain from punishing them. It upheld and abstained from punishing three other defendants.

According to the case file, these defendants were accused of committing forgery and bribery for the illegal issuance of driving licenses at a fee of KD 300 for each license. It was concluded that the defendants from the eighth to the fifteenth participated by agreement with the first defendant in the crime of forgery of the official document that was the subject of the first accusation of the second defendant before it occurred, by agreeing to falsify the forms related to the practical driving test with the intention of using them to obtain driving licenses, and the crime occurred based on that agreement as indicated in the investigations.
