Court frees 2 vote-buyers on bail

KUWAIT CITY, April 18: The Public Prosecution has decided to release two citizens on bail of KD 500 and 1,000 respectively after they were caught buying votes during election day for a candidate in the Third Constituency and a current MP in the Fifth Constituency. The Public Prosecution investigated the vote-buying case and confronted the defendants with evidence of their involvement in these crimes.

According to informed sources, the prosecution, along with the two defendants, were charged with those stipulated in article 44 of law No. 35/1962 regarding elections for members of the National Assembly and its amendments. Those who received money in exchange for voting for a specific candidate are being summoned. All the accused were confronted with the seized items related to the facts under investigation. These include money, citizenship documents, phone messages obtained from the seized phones, electoral statements, and bank transaction documents for financial transfers between the parties to the incident.
