Chaos seen on roads despite ‘tough’ laws

KUWAIT CITY, April 22: The Traffic Sector issued 26,778 traffic violation citations over the past week with a daily average of 3,825; in addition to dealing with 2,682 incidents and 1,243 accidents — a total of 3,925 and 263 injuries, reports Al-Ra daily. .This week-long campaign complies with the directives of Assistant Undersecretary for the Traffic and Operations Sector at the Interior Ministry Major General Yousef Al-Khadda, and under the monitoring of Director General of the General Traffic Department Brigadier General Jamal Al-Foudari.

The campaign included measures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and arrest of anyone proven to have violated the law like the reckless motorists. It led to the impounding of 188 vehicles and motorcycles, 32 people were detained in the Traffic Police Unit, 30 people wanted by law were arrested, 63 vehicles used in committing crimes were impounded, four people were referred to the Drugs Control General Department, one person was referred to the Firearm Possession Investigation Department, and many juveniles were referred to the Juvenile Prosecution. These ongoing campaigns are part of the plan laid down by security officials to follow up on the traffic situation and track down those who violate traffic regulations.
