Tough decisions to contain virus: PM

KUWAIT CITY, March 15, (KUNA): Kuwait government has adopted a set of “tough decisions” to confront the spread of the novel coronavirus but they were contributing to the wellbeing of people, His Highness the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said Sunday.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah has instructed the government to spare no efforts to confront the spread of the coronavirus, also known as COVID- 19, His Highness the Prime Minister said during a meeting with Ministry of Interior’s leadership.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al- Saleh, and senior ministry’s officers. His Highness the Prime Minister said the “tough decisions” were at the request of Ministry of Health and in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO). He said the Ministry of Interior’s personnel were doing a great job to implementing these decisions in order to maintain stability and security nationwide.

“This is a great responsibility, specially that we are dealing with a health crisis while we are keen how to deal with this health situation in a credible and transparent manner,” he said.

His Highness the Prime Minister reassured that Kuwait has enough stock of medicine and food. “We see the result of our planning today … We need to deal with this health crisis very carefully … ,” he said.

The ministry officers then briefed His Highness the Prime Minister about their plans to safeguard safety and security of the public. Kuwait’s Ministry of Health’s anticipation of magnitude of coronavirus was “accurate,” Sheikh Sabah Khaled said Sunday, and warned “we don’t known how long this pandemic will continue to exist.”

His Highness the Prime Minister, during a visit to the MoH headquarters to see first-hand preventive and contingency plans to address spread of coronavirus, said credibility of the ministry earned it appreciation of the world. “Kuwait was committed to transparency and honesty since day one,” he said.

His Highness the Prime Minister said His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah instructed the government to spare no effort to fight the virus. He noted Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah coordinated efforts with his GCC counterparts in compliance with World Health Organization’s regulations. “The reponsiblity is upon us all. We are working as one team to contain this pandemic,” underlined His Highness the Prime Minister.
