KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: The detention renewal judge ordered the release of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on KD 2,000 bail bond after spending 10 days in the cells of the Public Prosecution over alleged malicious statements he made against His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. It is worthy of note that member of the ruling family Sheikh Mubarak Al-Abdullah filed a petition against Sheikh Abdullah for posting a malicious video clip online. The Diwan Amiri also filed a similar petition over alleged malicious statements the accused purportedly made against the leadership.

Trio acquitted: The Criminal Court acquitted three Kuwaitis of alleged possession of illicit drugs at a livestock pen in Kabad. The prosecution officer nabbed the suspects while conducting security check in the area. Apparently, the suspects were in a car when the officer waived them down for checking, and observed that the second suspect who was in the passenger’s seat beside the driver was hiding a substance under the seat. He also noticed the two suspects were disoriented and ordered them to get off from the car. He found the substance in a sachet hidden under the seat, and the second suspect admitted sole ownership.

However, the two suspects later confessed ownership of the substance after further efforts to make them acknowledge the offense, noting they were planning to consume it. Attorney of the first suspect Attorney Freih Al-Kouh faulted the procedures leading to their arrest, stressing the officer had no right to suspect his client to the extent of searching him without warrant. He declared that technical evidences contradicted the officer’s testimony, and that the sachet did not contain illicit substance.
