‘Kuwaiti women married to expats face discrimination’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: A member of the Municipal Council and Chairman of Farwaniya Governorate Committee Nayef Al-Sour affirmed that Kuwaiti women married to non- Kuwaitis are suffering from clear social marginalization in terms of the laws related to them, calling for an end to such a discrimination by amending the relevant laws and regulations, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In a press statement, Al-Sour indicated that these women in most cases live in rented apartments and their salaries are not sufficient to cover the costs of living and their needs which are ever-increasing. He revealed that many of them are not working and their husbands have passed away, stressing that he wonders where the justice and good living is which is guaranteed by the Kuwait Constitution to women.

Meanwhile, MP Mohammad Tana requested Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa to take immediate action to end the suffering of Kuwaiti women whose appointments to work as security guards in Farwaniya Educational Zone have been suspended, reports Al-Rai daily. Reportedly, about 85 Kuwaiti women are affected by this move.
