Lifestyle blogger Maxim Lyutyi jailed for death of newborn son following sunlight-only diet.

MOSCOW, April 16: In a tragic case highlighting extreme parenting beliefs gone awry, Maxim Lyutyi, a 44-year-old lifestyle blogger, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the death of his newborn son, Cosmos. The infant perished due to pneumonia and emaciation, caused by his parents’ insistence on a sunlight-only diet regimen.

Lyutyi and his partner, Oxana Mironova, 34, neglected to properly nourish their son, Cosmos, who was less than one month old at the time of his death. Their misguided belief in a sun-based diet led to fatal consequences for the infant.

The court in Sochi heard harrowing details of Lyutyi’s actions, including his removal of the baby from his mother for extended periods, subjecting him to cold water baths to “harden” him, and depriving him of essential nutrition. Despite the child’s deteriorating health, Lyutyi failed to seek medical attention.

During court proceedings, Lyutyi initially attempted to shift blame onto Mironova, who received a non-custodial sentence of two years of correctional labor. However, he ultimately admitted guilt, acknowledging negligence in his parenting approach.

Lyutyi’s extreme dietary beliefs, rooted in the practice of prana-eating, involved eschewing food and water for prolonged periods, purportedly sustaining oneself solely through sunlight. He prevented Mironova from breastfeeding the child, illustrating his radical stance on nutrition.

Relatives of Mironova expressed concerns about Lyutyi’s controlling behavior, describing him as running a “sect” and exerting undue influence over Mironova. Despite her attempts to feed the baby in secret, she was unable to provide sufficient nourishment under Lyutyi’s watchful eye.

Tragically, despite eventual attempts to seek medical help for the severely malnourished baby, Cosmos could not be saved. The court also imposed a fine of £860 on Lyutyi, underscoring the severity of his actions.

The case serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers of extremist beliefs and the importance of prioritizing the well-being of vulnerable individuals, particularly infants, above ideological principles.
