ATHENS, April 6: Fares Al-Obaid, the pioneering Kuwaiti snowboarder, recently made waves at the International Winter Sports Competition in Greece. The event, sponsored by the Hellenic Winter Sports Federation and supported by Audi, hosted the FIS NC and NJC Alpine races at the picturesque Parnassus Ski Resort from March 26 to 27.

Reflecting on his journey, Al-Obaid expressed pride in representing Kuwait on the international stage, emphasizing his commitment to elevating his country’s reputation in global sporting arenas.

Al-Obaid said he was excited about participating in the winter sports competition, “Achieving this milestone marks my second official participation this season. My ultimate goal is to become Kuwait’s inaugural official skater at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy.”

Acknowledging the crucial role of support networks, Al-Obaid extended gratitude to the Kuwaiti Winter Games Club for their unwavering backing. He also appealed for increased sponsorship from the private sector and partial recognition from the General Sports Authority to further advance the sport’s prominence in Kuwait.

Looking ahead, Al-Obaid aims to leverage his experience gained from training alongside professional skaters in France, Switzerland, and Austria over the past two months. He envisions a future where he mentors and guides young Kuwaiti talents, nurturing a new generation of winter sports enthusiasts.
