KOC achieves Jurassic exploration milestone

KUWAIT CITY, July 30: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) recently completed the development of the first phase of unconventional Jurassic reservoirs, say reliable sources. Sources told the newspaper that this remarkable achievement culminated in the successful drilling of the SA1029 exploratory oil well at the Sabriya field in North Kuwait. Sources said the company proved the feasibility of producing hydrocarbons from the kerogen reservoir, which is the primary source and origin of oil and gas in deep Jurassic reservoirs. Sources stated “the success of this experiment and the potential for extracting and generating hydrocarbons from this reservoir proves the economic viability of the efforts of the country in exploring and developing hydrocarbon resources.”

Sources pointed out that the Al-Sabriya field is one of the giant fields in North Kuwait, indicating that the success of the first oil well is an exceptional turning point, shifting from total reliance on conventional and easily extractable reservoirs to the exploration of challenging and deep reservoirs that require highly advanced technologies, such as multi-stage hydraulic fracturing and long horizontal drilling. Sources added that once all the phases are completed, the project will secure the future of the energy sector and support strategic plans that enhance the ability of Kuwait to increase its production of free gas and highvalue light oil.
