MP queries minister on price hike

KUWAIT CITY, March 23: National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim met with Indonesian Speaker of the People’s Representative Council Puan Maharani on the sidelines of the ongoing 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Bali, Indonesia. The two parties discussed ways to strengthen their ties, especially in the legislative field; as well as the latest regional and international developments. They agreed on the need to intensify efforts to reach a common ground on various issues in order to serve the interests of all concerned parties.

During the meeting, Al-Ghanim expressed his gratitude to the Indonesian leaders and people for their hospitality and remarkable preparations for the 144th Assembly of IPU. Kuwaiti Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulwahab Al-Saqr attended the meeting. Al-Ghanim also met with President of the Consultative Assembly of Qatar Hamdah bint Hassan Al-Slaiti, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jordan Haitham Al-Zaiadeen and Deputy Speaker of Algerian People’s National Assembly Munther Buden. They talked about issues of mutual concern and ways to strengthen parliamentary coordination.

On the other hand, MP Hamdan Al-Azmi forwarded queries to all ministers about the steps they have taken regarding the comments of monitoring institutions in the last few years, number of comments they have addressed, number of comments they have yet to address, and reasons for not addressing them until now.

MP Osama Al-Shaheen

MP Osama Al-Shaheen asked Minister of Commerce and Industry Fahd Al-Sharean if the Consumer Protection Department is monitoring the prices of commodities and foodstuff in shopping malls, markets and cooperative societies. He wants to know why the ministry did not issue a circular specifying the prices of foodstuff in order to prevent unreasonable price hikes, especially on the days leading up to the holy month of Ramadan.

MP Hesham Al-Saleh forwarded queries to Health Minister Dr Khaled Al-Saeed about the reasons behind the low revenue for fiscal 2020/2021 compared to the projected revenue, as well as the revenues for fiscals 2018/2019 and 2019 /2020. He requested for a detailed report on uncollected revenues, reasons for non-collection, and reasons for the reduction of the budget for development projects. By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh Arab Times Staff
