Kuwait bans import of live birds from three countries

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: The Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has imposed a temporary ban on the import of all types of live birds, eggs and oneday- old broiler chicks from The Netherlands, Italy and Taiwan, following the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 in those countries, reports Al-Qabas daily. PAAAFR spokesman Talal Al- Daihani told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the decision stressed on the necessity of all consignments, according to their type, to be subjected to the conditions and controls issued by the animal health department of PAAAFR, in accordance with the procedures laid down by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the procedures stipulated in the regulations of veterinary quarantine in Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The daily quoting Al-Daihani said consignments infected with any type of the epidemic and contagious diseases will be rejected after examining the samples at the authority’s laboratory, and that the importer will be instructed to return the infected birds and animals to the port from which they arrived at his own expense without the authority bearing any responsibility.
