Court declares ‘royal’ innocent

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Court of Appeals overturned the ruling issued in absentia to imprison a ruling family member for five years with hard labor. The court instead ruled his innocence in charges of beating one of his employees and causing harm to her due to the maliciousness of her allegations and her bargaining with him over an amount of KD 60,000.

The Public Prosecution had charged the accused with intentionally causing the victim the injuries described in the forensic report, which resulted in severe physical pain. He also was accused of sending a written threat to the victim to inflict harm on her if she did not withdraw her complaint.

He was also charged with intentionally misusing the telephone communication service for committing the crime. Representing the defendant was Lawyer Sultan Al-Shammali, who highlighted the lax reporting by the victim, the maliciousness of her allegations, the lack of reasoning in conceiving the occurrence of the incident as shown in the documents, and the contradiction of the verbal evidence of the victim, the technical evidence and the fabrication of the technical evidence.

Lawyer Al-Shammali also highlighted the absence of the elements of the crime of public insult, as there is no anecdotal or technical evidence for it, except the statements of the victim. He indicated the lack of seriousness of the investigations carried out by the detectives in the case.
