Amir voices gratitude on liberation

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has sent cables of gratitude to leaders of Arab and foreign countries, which participated in the international coalition to liberate the State of Kuwait from the brutal Iraqi invasion. In the cables, His Highness the Amir expressed gratitude to the honorable stances of these countries that stood firmly and decisively with Kuwait.

This was clear through urging the international community to condemn this aggression. His Highness the Amir also thanked the leaders for their prominent roles in confronting the invasion at the UN Security Council and international arenas.

The late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, upon his arrival to the homeland after the Liberation of Kuwait.

He also commended their contributions to forming and taking part in the international coalition through harnessing military capabilities to support the international legitimacy to liberate the State of Kuwait that led to the historical victory and the ending of the invasion. His Highness the Amir stressed that such noble and historical stances were highly appreciated and it will remain in the Kuwaiti people’s memory. His Highness the Amir wished the leaders and their countries progress and prosperity.

Gratitude
Meanwhile, His Highness the Amir sent cables of gratitude to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul-Gheit and Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef Al-Othaimeen.

In the cables, His Highness the Amir voiced sincere appreciation for the honorable stances of these organizations in rejecting the brutal Iraqi invasion that were embodied in efforts that called for condemning this aggression and an immediate and unconditioned withdrawal as well as an emphasis of implementing international charters and preserving sovereignty of countries. His Highness the Amir affirmed that the vital role played by these organizations have been gained appreciation of Kuwait and its people.

His Highness the Amir wished everlasting progress to these organizations to achieve their desired goals. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Kuwait Thursday on its national celebrations, saying “on behalf of the American people, ever Kuwait’s friends and partners, I am honored to send the people of Kuwait my best wishes on your National Day and Liberation Day. “Thirty years ago, Kuwait, the United States, and our international coalition partners stood together with unity of purpose and partnership in arms to defeat the (Iraqi) invading forces,” Blinken said in a statement. He added “our partnership during the Gulf War laid the foundation for our relationship, and our countries have grown ever closer in the years that have followed.” He affirmed that “today, our educational, cultural, political, and economic ties are stronger than they have ever been.”

“In the coming year, I look forward to our continued cooperation on the many issues our countries face together and to commemorating our partnership during the Gulf War,” he remarked. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah received a phone call from US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, congratulating Sheikh Hamad on the 60th National Day and 30th Liberation Anniversary on Saturday.

In a statement published by Kuwait Army’s public relations department, Sheikh Hamad thanked Austin for his kind feelings, underlining the strong ties and joint work between Kuwait and the USA. He noted America’s key role in liberating Kuwait and the sacrifices of the American army members during the Gulf Storm operation. The minister also spoke of the great efforts of leaders who led the military operations, mainly former US President George Bush.

On his part, Austin invited his Kuwaiti counterpart to visit the US in the near future, as part of the deep relations between the two countries. Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf hailed on Thursday Kuwait’s successes and achievements under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Al-Hajraf congratulated Kuwait on the 60th National Day and 30th Liberation Day. He recalled the brave martyrs of Kuwait who sacrificed their lives to defend their country.
