‘MoFA employees carried out 144 official missions during fiscal year’

KUWAIT CITY, July 25: According to a report issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the average number of official missions that the employees of the ministry go on during a fiscal year is approximately 144, and the value of travel tickets for these missions reached KD 257,997, reports Al-Rai daily.

The report was prepared in response to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Dr Hamoud Al-Khudair. It stated that the number of official missions carried out by the personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the 2016-2017 fiscal year reached 144.

They were carried out in a number of countries such as Turkey, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, France, Ukraine, Iran, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Poland, Oman Britain, Jordan, Belgium, Sudan, India, Thailand, Qatar, Germany, Tajikistan, Slovenia, Malaysia, Emirates, Brunei, Equatorial Guinea, Japan, Vietnam, Italy, Morocco and Egypt.

The reason behind these missions was to attend official conferences, seminars or visits abroad. The report stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to applying all the decisions and regulations set in this regard by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), similar to all other government agencies in the state. It affirmed the commitment of the ministry to abide by all the stipulated procedures and the necessary requirements within the framework of implementing the decisions issued by CSC, especially those related to dispatching officials and employees on official duties and the mechanism of spending for that purpose.

The report explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs performs all the work related to Kuwait’s relations with other countries based on the Amiri decree No. 32/1962 that regulate the activities of the ministry especially what is stipulated in the second article of the decree.

The decree sets regulations concerning Kuwait’s participation in international organizations, conferences and exhibitions, as well as for conducting discussions, preparing for the conclusion of international treaties and agreements, participating in negotiations to conclude these treaties and agreements, and implementing, interpreting and rejecting these treaties and agreements, in addition to participating in negotiations on agreements concluded with foreign countries.

It stated that the ministry participates in foreign conferences and meetings dealing with political situations and developments in the world that require the participation of the State of Kuwait as part of international events and developments, as well as in international conferences and meetings at the Gulf, Arab and Islamic levels, in response to the higher interests of the State of Kuwait
