Weather warning: Thunderstorms threaten Saudi Arabia until the end of the week.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, May 4: Severe weather warnings have been issued across Saudi Arabia as the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts thunderstorms and heavy rainfall for the week ahead. The NCM predicts active winds, dust storms, and potential flooding, particularly in regions such as Jizan, Assir, Al Baha, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province.

Following recent heavy rains that affected various parts of the kingdom, the NCM anticipates moderate to heavy rainfall continuing until Friday, with the possibility of hail showers and high waves in coastal areas. The General Directorate of Civil Defence has cautioned citizens to remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas and valleys, urging them to avoid swimming in floodwaters due to safety hazards.

In response to the weather advisory, authorities have urged the public to stay informed and adhere to safety instructions disseminated through various media channels and social media platforms. This comes after last week’s severe weather conditions prompted the suspension of in-person classes in several regions, prompting a shift to remote learning.

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture reported significant rainfall across monitoring stations in Riyadh, Al Qassim, Makkah, the Eastern Province, Assir, H’ail, the Northern Borders, Jizan, Najran, and Al Baha. The Eastern Province recorded the highest rainfall in a single day, with 63 mm, highlighting the widespread impact of the inclement weather.
