KUWAIT CITY, June 21: In a significant medical achievement, the Ministry of Health announced the successful implantation of an artificial heart pump, marking the first procedure of its kind in the country and the second in the entire Arab world. The groundbreaking surgery was performed on a patient in their sixties who had also undergone the installation of a left ventricular assist device.

According to the ministry's statement, the patient experienced a severe heart attack and was immediately transported to the chest disease hospital. Following resuscitation efforts that lasted approximately 50 minutes, the patient underwent essential cardiac catheterization procedures, including the placement of five stents in the arteries. To support proper lung function, the patient was placed on ECMO, an artificial life support device, until their condition stabilized.

Later, the dedicated team at Amiri hospital assumed responsibility for the patient's ongoing care, ensuring a smooth recovery and progress. Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, the Minister of Health, commended the professionalism of all individuals involved in the case, acknowledging their exceptional efforts.

This milestone achievement not only showcases the advanced medical capabilities within the country but also represents a significant step forward in improving cardiac care and saving lives.
