THERE is an old Arabic proverb: “Seek knowledge, even if it is in China.” In that spirit, a growing number of Arab students have chosen to pursue their education in China in recent years. For instance, in 2023 alone, the number of Saudi students in China reached 783.
There is no doubt that Kuwaiti students who choose China as their study-abroad destination will find themselves stepping into a world of endless possibilities and opportunities. China has experienced remarkable growth in the field of higher education, with many of its universities earning strong international recognition.
According to the 2025 QS World University Rankings, 33 Chinese universities are listed among the world’s top 500. Notably, five are ranked among the top 50 globally: Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Zhejiang University. China is also a global leader in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, 5G communications, renewable energy, and e-commerce. Studying in China allows students to closely observe these global developments and engage directly in cutting-edge scientific research and business practices. They will become active participants at the forefront of modern innovation and progress.
Some students may worry about studying in China without proficiency in the Chinese language. I would like to reassure them that many Chinese universities offer degree programs taught in English. During their time in China, students can also study Chinese and gain fluency in one of the world’s most widely spoken languages. Studying in China will strengthen your core competitiveness for future career development.
As the world’s second-largest economy, China offers a vast and dynamic market with abundant job opportunities for international graduates. Many multinational corporations and Chinese-foreign joint ventures operate throughout the country, creating strong demand for professionals with diverse cultural backgrounds and specialized expertise. With the ongoing development of relations between China and Arab countries, including Kuwait, Kuwaiti students who gain a deep understanding of China will be well-positioned to serve as vital bridges for economic and cultural exchange between the two countries, and open up promising and wide-ranging prospects for their future careers. China offers an excellent living environment for international students.
The country is known for its stable policies, safe society, efficient transportation systems, vibrant economy, rich cultural scene, and diverse cuisine. Thanks to the widespread use of mobile payment technologies, daily life in China has become remarkably convenient. With just a mobile phone, individuals can easily manage a wide range of everyday needs. To attract international students, the Chinese government and universities offer a variety of scholarship programs that cover tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation, and more.
Each year, the Chinese government provides five to seven scholarships specifically for Kuwaiti students. The Chinese Embassy in Kuwait informs the Ministry of Higher Education of these opportunities every October. Currently, only seven universities from China’s core program are included on Kuwait’s approved list. We hope that the Kuwaiti authorities will consider adding more Chinese universities to this list, thereby expanding opportunities and choices for Kuwaiti students. For those interested in applying for a Chinese government scholarship, please follow the Chinese Embassy’s account on the X platform “@ChinaEmbKuwait”.
