Saudi Ministry permits dual employment for private sector workers in the kingdom.

CAIRO, Egypt, Nov 26, (Agencies): In a recent announcement, the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources has confirmed that private sector employees in the kingdom are permitted to have dual employment. However, the ministry emphasized the importance of checking employment contracts and company bylaws to ensure there are no restrictions on holding two jobs.

Saudi Arabia has been actively working to regulate its job market and enhance its competitiveness. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Human Resources introduced an authentication plan through the Qiwa platform, requiring private sector institutions to document a specified percentage of employee contracts in each quarter of 2023.

The authentication plan aims to safeguard the rights of both employers and employees, fostering a stable labor environment that supports increased productivity and strengthens the job market. In 2020, the country implemented significant labor reforms, particularly in its sponsorship system, allowing for greater job mobility and regulating exit and re-entry visas for expatriate workers without requiring employer approval.

These reforms enable expatriate workers to transfer between employers upon contract expiration without employer consent, while also allowing them to travel outside Saudi Arabia without seeking approval from their employers. With these measures in place, Saudi Arabia continues its efforts to create a more dynamic and regulated labor market.
