‘Partial curfew might be lifted on Eid if all is well’

KUWAIT CITY, April 24: Officials are optimistic about a breakthrough in the health crisis in the second week of May, reports Al- Qabas daily quoting highly reliable sources from the government. Sources pointed out that if there is no remarkable increase in the number of coronavirus deaths and infections, as well as those under intensive care, in the next two weeks, the partial curfew might be lifted during Eid Al-Fitr. Asked about the possibility of opening the airport, sources said this depends on the vaccination rate of citizens to ensure they are protected in case of contact with arriving passengers, indicating the airport will most likely open on July 1. Sources revealed the government’s plan is to resume direct flights for citizens to return from many countries listed as high risk for coronavirus, which will be discussed in the next Cabinet meeting.

Sources went on to say that the government also issued a directive to open many establishments once the curfew is lifted — probably at the end of Ramadan; including health clubs, certain companies, restaurants and associations on the condition that all their employees are vaccinated and they should strictly comply with the health regulations. Sources disclosed one million doses of vaccines are expected to arrive in May and June , emphasizing that vaccination is not mandatory, but those who have been vaccinated will likely enjoy benefits such as permission to enter many places and to travel which will be determined later. On easing restrictions for some establishments, sources confirmed this is possible only once all the workers in cooperative societies, markets, banks and others are vaccinated; affirming the vaccination of these workers is currently being conducted in mobile units in an efficient manner.

Sources said the vaccination of service sector workers will greatly contribute to the ongoing efforts to achieve community immunity that will lead to stopping the implementation of various regulations and lifting restrictions. Sources also stressed the need for the public to be committed to their vaccination schedule — whether in the health centers, Kuwait Vaccination Center in Mishref or mobile units.
