Over 18,000 Kuwaitis unemployed

KUWAIT CITY, July 5: The number of male and female Kuwaiti job-seekers who have registered and have been on the waiting list for more than six months is 18,168, reports Al-Rai daily. According to official data issued by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), the unemployed citizens are classified into 17 segments based on qualifications. The applications for registrants for a job are limited to three main qualifications – university, diploma and secondary qualifications – with more than 82 percent of applications.

About 59 percent of job seekers hold a university degree, amounting to 10,673 male and female citizens, and this category ranked first among those registered as job seekers with the authority. In second place are 2,993 male and female citizens holding diploma qualification, with a rate of 16.47 percent. In third place came 1,230 male and female citizens who hold high school qualifications and completed a course of two years or more, with a rate of 6.77 percent
