Bid to protect public from spread of coronavirus
KUWAIT CITY, March 5: Kuwait Municipality announced that it has intensified inspection campaigns of barber-shops, health clubs and cafés in order to ensure precautionary and preventive measures for avoiding the spread of the new coronavirus are being adhered to for the sake of protecting the public health.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, the municipality explained that it has formed inspection teams to cover all the governorates in this regard. This is aimed to ensure the precautionary and preventive measures are implemented in the aforementioned facilities to curb the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, and that the violators of these measures will be subjected to stringent punishment.
This comes especially after Ministry of Health declared the importance of strict oversight on all the employees in barber-shops, women salons, health clubs, and sports and social clubs. It warned all cafés against selling “shisha” currently until further notice when the health situation of the country will be assessed.
Kuwait Municipality emphasized that those working in such facilities must ensure proper health environment and abide by personal protection means through the use of gloves, face masks, sterilizers and disinfectants in order to protect the health of the citizens and expatriates through prevention, which is better than cure.
On the ground, the inspection teams of Kuwait Municipality carried out inspection tours in the Capital and Farwaniya Governorates, which resulted in the issuance of scores of citations and warnings against several salons and cafés. In the same context, an oversight team from Capital Municipality issued six citations and 21 pledges, as well as 11 warnings against salons and cafés in accordance with Ministry of Health’s decision to curb the spread of the new coronavirus epidemic.
Meanwhile, the Audit and Followup Services Department of Jahra Municipality issued 31 citations related to unlicensed advertisement against shops inside commercial complexes in Jahra Industrial Area. It also issued ten warnings against illegal constructions on state properties near Mutla road, and removed 30 advertisements that were posted randomly and illegally on the streets and yards.
Also, in Farwaniya Governorate, 15 shops were inspected and eight citations were issued. In this regard, the Public Relations Department of Kuwait Municipality urged the public to call municipality’s Hotline No. 139, which operates round the clock, or contact the municipality via its various social media accounts or through WhatsApp on the number 24727732 in order to report complaints or present suggestions related to the municipality mandate.
