Mullet ‘fishing season’ set for launch from June 15

KUWAIT CITY, May 30: The Director General of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) Sheikh Muhammad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah has issued a decision to launch the mullet fishing season in Kuwaiti territorial waters from June 15, reports Al- Qabas daily. In a press statement, the official spokesperson of PAAAFR Talal Al-Daihani explained that fishermen will be allowed to fish for the mullet (meed) fish in the Kuwaiti territorial waters from June 15 to November 30, 2021 but in accordance with the conditions and controls set by the authority. The decision to allow mullet fishing was made after coordinating with the PAAAFR’s Deputy Director General for Fisheries Affairs, reviewing the fish stock of mullet fish, and carrying out marine control patrols to ensure the availability of good quantities of the fish.

Owners of fishing vessels and boats licensed to fish mullets must abide by the provisions of Resolution No. 787/2017 on permitting fishing of mullet in Kuwaiti territorial waters during the mullet fishing season. Al-Daihani called on fishermen to abide by the controls and laws, stressing that anyone who violates the provisions of this resolution will be liable to penalties stipulated in Law No. 46/1980 regarding the protection of fish wealth.
