Ministry of Info workers ‘dissatisfied’ over lack of parking place

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 9: The employees of Ministry of Information who work at the Burj Al Hamra have expressed their dissatisfaction because the ministry has failed to renew the parking contract although the three-floor lease has been renewed, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily quoting sources said, the nonrenewal of the contract has affected more than 400 employees of the ministry. Commenting on this situation, the daily quoting the same sources said the employees are now required to pay on a daily basis. Director of Finance Department in the Ministry, Muntaha Rundi said the Ministry of Information has written to the Ministry of Finance several times to renew the contract but the Ministry has categorically turned down the request.

Sources added that the Ministry of Information is keen to reduce the financial burden on the staff, but this is in accordance with regulations and systems.” A number of employees told the daily “it is not normal for a ministry employee to pay money to park the car during working hours,” and explained the employees pay 600 fils on a daily basis to park their cars in the car park of the tower.

They added each employee “pays 12 dinars a month while the value of the amount paid for the 400 employees, is about 4,800 dinars per month and about 57.6 thousand dinars annually.” The employees stressed the ministry is responsible for providing parking places for its employees, and appealed to the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri to intervene to alleviate their suffering.
