KUWAIT CITY, June 5: The General Public Prosecutor Dherar Al-Asousi has referred an official of the Ministry of Electricity to Central Prison for a period of 21 days following investigations with him regarding a bribery case, reports Al-Rai daily. The official denied the accusation leveled against him, which is that he forfeited the right of the state to receive income from the electricity bills by manipulating the meter.

The property owner had informed detectives about the incident, and these detectives had obtained permission from the Public Prosecution to arrest the accused when he was receiving a bribe worth KD 40,000.

Through coordination between the detectives and the informant, the accused was caught red-handed receiving the bribe. He was interrogated by the detectives and confronted with the amount he received. Initially, he admitted to receiving the bribe, but he later changed his statement and denied the charge before the Public Prosecution despite being confronted with evidence. The Public Prosecution detained him and referred him to the Central Prison in preparation for his referral to the Criminal Court
