MEW confirms receiving 66,000 smart meters

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Assistant Undersecretary for the Customer Service Sector at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Eng Ahmed Al-Rashidi has confirmed that the ministry received 66,000 smart meters, reports Al-Qabas daily. Al-Rashidi told the daily that the ministry is expected to receive 19,000 smart meters on Sunday and 5,000 in early September to complete the first batch consisting of 90,000 out of 200,000 meters as part of the first tender that will be completed in March.

He said the ministry will start installing the smart meters in September in Salmiya upon conclusion of the field survey, followed by Hawally and Farwaniya. He disclosed the first stage of implementation will focus on investment buildings with a large number of tenants, indicating this will greatly contribute to the ongoing efforts to collect payments for outstanding energy bills.
