Medical outreach: CAN organizes lectures on prostate cancer

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 28: Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN), Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh, spoke of the importance of the awareness-raising role played by the campaign to highlight the awareness of men over fifty years of age against prostate cancer and other cancers.He also pointed to the organization of a number of lectures to raise awareness and provide the necessary medical consultations in coordination and cooperation with the Diwaniyas of the first generation.
Al-Saleh said in a statement yesterday that the ‘campaign’ reached several places, the most recent of which was a visit to the Diwaniyah of the First Ra’eel in Rumaithiya, where the kidney and urology specialist, Dr. Khaled Al-Otaibi provided a lot of medical advice and guidance on the importance of early detection of prostate cancer and conducting the necessary tests in this regard.

He stressed the importance of early detection to achieve higher rates of cure, pointing out that prostate cancer ranks second in incidence among Kuwaiti men over the age of fifty, so prostate cancer is considered a “long-life cancer,” as more than 50% of prostate cancer patients are over the age of 50 years.

He stressed on the importance of awareness of identifying the initial signs of tumor infection, and performing simple laboratory tests such as the PSA, which leads to faster diagnosis and treatment and a higher rate of recovery.

He pointed to the launch of the Kuwait Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign, which was launched by (CAN) this November in partnership with the Kuwaiti Urological Association and the Kuwaiti Oncology Association under the slogan ‘Get Tested, with the aim of highlighting the awareness of men over fifty years of age in the State of Kuwait about prostate cancer.

He announced organizing more than 10 lectures as part of the activities and events of the “Get Tested” campaign, in coordination and cooperation with public institutions, and public benefit associations, in addition to holding various exhibitions and a sports walkathon within the campaign for the target group in cooperation with the Patient Relief Fund Association.

He also announced the launch of a new campaign next December under the title “Our Children, Our Youth” to educate children and youth about the importance of eating healthy foods.
